Hi, I like to start a discussion on our next (smaller) release: 0.5.1
http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Release000501

In preparation, I helped the team, to review the whole TRAC and filter out tickets and assign them to the new milestone. This results in 183 remaining issues.
While this sounds like a huge number, please take in mind, that most of the bugs needs to be still verified and some are only related to a single platform etc.

IMHO the huge tasks for the release are:
  • check if we forgot some tickets [1]
  • check if assigment for 0.5.1 and 0.6.0 (as parking space ;)) is ok to you [2]
  • stop support for unmaintained platforms and components
  • test/verify the bugs of assigned tickets
  • start fixing this bugs
  • Improve our development process (full, CMake switch, buildserver for remaining platforms, ...)

Please give us some feedback and see this roadmap only as a first draft and nothing final ;)

Imho bug/trac #908 is a feature and should be assigned to milestone 0.6.0.
I think it is no bug to have two cars/vehicles available, as you can set one as the active one.
Therefor it is more a bug, that the demo vehicle is always somewhere on the map around the local GPS (or a remote GPS or whatever).
So Navit runs fine without this feature/bug. Depending on the personal view the demo vehicle bug should be fixed in 0.5.1, the feature in 0.6.0.
As mentioned befor I think this is a feature.

Dropping platforms and/or languages which are not supported (if it means anything) isn't probably the best idea. Mostly with languages at least some translation may be better than no translation. With platform specific code. If changes are made in way which won't break compilation of old code, chance that "unsupported" platform will remain usable is good. At least there is chance someone will test the code. With no code you have nothing to test.

Maybe I need to explain my intention:

Currently we have only a very very small team of coders that actually really contribute and maintain code. In my opinion, this means we have to unite and to focus our forces, till we reach a state/version again, that is stable and invites other devs to easily contribute (which means, that we can spend more times on other things).

This doesn't has to mean necessary, that we delete something. I guess in most cases we just "disable" features using compile switches and that we temporally remove .po language files.

So if we want to get started with 0.5.1 we should do so:

Everybody working on tickets, please assign them to you, so the whole team sees, if you are working on them:
http://trac.navit-project.org/report/4
To do so, just browse a ticket and modify -> assign them to your user

I also enabled the "severity" (complexity) support in TRAC. I already did a fast review of the 0.5.1 tickets and labeled some as trivial others as complex. This can help us to find tasks for newcomers or that needs to be discussed on a wider base.
