Hi,
I noticed that we currently don't offer anything releated to collecting money.
Even I'm not here to earn anything, to have a certain amount of finances would be great:
  • keep servers running
  • keeps costs low for a dev team meeting
  • put out bounties on issues/competitions
  • getting test devices

So what do you think, should we offer to collect money?
If we collect, how should we collect it (services/organisations)?
How do you think can we realize transparency?

I saw that we already offer Paypall and Amazon affilate links to support the project.
I didn't found any informations about how much money we got using this channels and how it was spend? What is the goal of this collection and where is it stored?

Recently someone told me about an interesting competition. The goal is to port some software to a device on which it is not intended to run by the original maintainers. The winner gets a tablet or something similar. With some money one could make a similar competition with Navit: Port Navit to a new platform where it was not running before, and provide your code with complete, reproducable setup instructions and a picture.

hmm... I've voted and the poll shows still "Total votes: 0"... but no matter...
Edit: I get an error-message, if I vote. See attached screenshot.

It would be also nice, if there will be alternatives to paypal. The bank account data (IBAN) should also be online. From time to time I make donations to some open source projects - but I don't use paypal, I would like to have the IBAN-number, so I can make an ebanking-task...
And maybe flattr and bitcoin would be also nice alternatives.

(and a flattr-Mod in the forum would also be a good idea. So everyone can flattr to any helper and maybe the helpfulness could further increased)

I'm very ok with flattr and bitcoin in general, but please not esp. in the forum. Of course it would be a great bounty for supporters, but IMHO it might provoke bad trends (only support if you pay, looking like money-making, ...). This forum is simply about support and not about collecting donations ;)

But if we raise some donations, we should make clear on how we like to spend it, so people see if they are ok with our expenses/calculations. I don't know how cp15 currently deals with the money (a private account, ...) and how all this works with taxes etc. Maybe it's a clever idea to ask the FOSSGIS e.V. (german society to empower free GIS) if we can hop in and use them as payment provider. IMHO it would be very ok, if we grant 30...50% to OSM DE as well, because a Navigation system is only one part of a good navitation solution ;)

P.S. Will try to fix the poll bug
