Mmm, interesting.

That's weird as it should be the exact same apk that we pushed to the store.

We have automated updates to the store now.

Can you please try https://github.com/navit-gps/navit/releases/tag/R6259 ( latest nightly ) ?

Hi all,

I'm having the same kind of problem on my 2.3.5 android device. I can't install apk from github (even the 6259), it says "Application not installed". I only succeeded from F-Droid (version 0.5.0-6255).

Pacman, thank you for your interest in Navit!

Android due to security reasons does not support package upgrade unless both new and old apk versions are signed with the same key. F-Droid people build binaries themselves and use their own keys to sign resulting packages.

So you have to uninstall F-Droid version of Navit apk before attempting to install GooglePlay, github (circleci), or home-brew one.

For convenience, do backup of Navit internal data before uninstalling, and restore when new package is ready.

Please note, for backup, Navit uses same folder as is used to store maps. So if you have changed the default one, you'll have to repeat that change manually before you can do the restore.

Thanks tryagain, it worked: I now have r6259 from github installed and after changing the directory, I got my parameters and my map back. r6259 has the same strange behavior as r6255 from F-Droid on my android device: I can not stop it with the Quit button. Clicking the Quit button restarts Navit. The only way I found to quit Navit is the Restore action! I'm currently installing the android development software and will try to build the application myself. If that succeeds, I'll have a look inside...

Here are my experiences with following Android devices:
1. Sony Tablet S (SGPT12) with Android 4.1.1 and
2. Samsung mobile phone XCover2 with Android 4.1.2

I tested to install app navit-0.5.0-r6446 from Google App Store: works on both devices.
Tested to install apk navit-0.5.0-unsigned-r6461 from Github/svn: fails on both devices (*).
Tested to install apk navit-0.5.0-rc1-r6136 from Github/svn: fails on both devices (*).
Tested to install apk navit-0.5.0-beta.1-r6132 from Github/svn: works on both devices.
Tested to install apk navit-0.5.0-r6259 from Github/svn: works on both devices.
Tested to install apk navit-0.5.0-r6135 from Github/svn: works on both devices.

(*) A previous version was deleted from device before install. Install message "app not installed".

I recently installed the latest from f-droid (they have only 0.5.0-6328 from 18Nov2015, not the latest from github/playstore) on an old Huawei Ideos U8150-B (it runs froyo and is rooted) and it has this similar issue. Even trying to force close it from phone settings->applications does not work, the button is greyed out.

I did find after some experimenting that if I use the 'Home" button to get back to the desktop, then select navit from the apps list as if I were trying to start a second instance, that it will now close properly if I select Exit. Alternately if I requested a route, it can also exit properly.

I installed the same version on a skytex skypad alpha 2 (that runs Ice Cream Sandwich) but that device does not have this issue.

Edit: Yes I saw https://forum.navit-project.org/viewtop ... f=17&t=420 but that one was supposedly fixed and sounded somewhat different, I do not get the screen hangs mentioned there.

The best version is navit 0.5.0 from 2013. Only own bookmark-folders on SD-card are not possible. Download here: http://www.navit-maps.org/navit-current.apk
Exctract navit.xml and change the paths (search for mapset)
