Post subject:  Several maps on Android Navit

Hello,

According installation manulal http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Android I can have only one map file named navitmap.bin. I am wrong?

Download a map from the Navit Map Extractor, connect your device to your pc, choose Select to copy files to/from your computer on the device and save the downloaded map as navitmap.bin into the navit folder on your device.

How to deal in case when I need to have several locations in different paths of world?

Actually, Android version now has own map download interface, so you do not need a pc.

Also, Navit will take all files with bin extension residing in /sdcard/navit directory. That directory could be tuned now too.

Map download and map directory tuning is available through menu shown by Menu button press (if your device has such a key or emulates it), or, alternatively, can be called from internal gui (tap the map, select Tools, and you'll see these options).

If you have more than one map, them all would be activated on startup.

But beware, working with more than one map is buggy, even if map regions do not overlap. Some objects would be duplicated, leading to broken navigational instructions and search results. In general, the closer map regions, more artifacts you notice.

So it's advised to have only one active map at a time (go to settings->maps in internal gui and disable maps you do not need at the moment). Another way to keep only one active map at a time would be to create several "map directories" with "select map directory" tool and store each map in its own directory. In the latter case, you'll also need to maintain a separate copy of navit.xml in each map directory, if you need a custom navit.xml.
