Dundingen and Landershofen water came from the http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/239051163 isle marked as coastline.

I'm unsure of the tature of water to the northeast of Landershofen. But yesterday night I have seen a big hole in the Eurasia coastline near France IIRC. Such a hole could easily flood very big map areas with water.

To get more on tracking down broken coastlines, please do the poly_water_tiled search on our trac,navit-project.org.

According to such problems with the coastlines, I have a feature request for the planet extractor:
- ignore all coastlines
- every month 1x a check of the coastlines. If they are correct then a new import of the right coastlines
(its almost like the mapnik-map on OSM: they render the coastlines also just all few months 1x)

EDIT: Maybe its realizable with 2 different bin-Files: one bin-file with the coastlines (updates once a month or all 2 months) and one bin-file with all the other datas but no coastlines.

What do you think? Would this be a possiblility for the planet extractor?

Sure, this would be a solution.

Though we would need somebody to do the test by schedule unless we manage to make this process automated.

For automated test, we could use few hundreds or thousands points which are definitely land. These points can be even automatically be taken from the map items such as big cities.

Having two distinct maps gives some sense, as it allows to use coastline-only map as a world wide overview. Though that would require some infrastructure changes.

We could also use some similar approach for country boundaries, as broken country boundaries produce quite annoying problems too. AFAIK Nominatim uses similar technique for country boundaries.

tryagain.

The problem is still occurring:
In the maps downloaded last week (twice) half of Germany an Poland were under water :(
As I can read here it is problem of data on osm, but as long as other tools (like osm itself or gpsmid) have no problem with it, maptool should somehow catch this problem.
As a short solution I have removed the tags to render: "poly_water_tiled". Yo have then any sea ocean, but it is not important if the distance to it is big enough-
On windows/linux it is no problem, on android it is difficult (or I have not enough experience in android) but also possible.

Thanks for the tip. It's no real problem on android too - you just have to edit the vehicle layout in the navit.xml file.
But I would also prefer a real solution to this constantly recurring problem.
